About Juliana

Welcome to my website!

I am proud and honoured to be the Member for Wendouree, having been elected to Parliament of Victoria at the November 2018 election.

The Wendouree District takes in the central area of Ballarat, including the surrounding suburbs of Wendouree, Black Hill, Redan, Invermay, Lake Gardens, Alfredton, Delacombe, Nerrina, Newington, Brown Hill and Soldiers Hill.

I was born and raised in Ballarat – it is my home. It is where my husband Mike and I are raising our two children, Jo and Sophia, and where I previously worked for 12 years as a School Teacher.

I’m passionate about making our community an even better place to live. From great local schools, to world-class health services and more local jobs – it all matters.

As a former Teacher, I know just how much of a difference Labor Governments have made for our children by supporting local schools and I want to ensure Labor continues to deliver for our community.

I have a strong interest in public policy, particularly in the areas of health, education and women. I am passionate about issues of access and equity; and supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community.

I am proud to Chair the Legislative Assembly Environment and Planning Committee which examines any matters connected with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and the Department of Transport and Planning and their related agencies. Previously I served on the Legislative Assembly’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee which has undertaken inquiries into finding employment for long term disadvantaged job seekers and access to TAFE for people with disabilities.

Since being elected I have been appointed to chair two Cabinet committees, the first being the Women’s Correctional Services Advisory Committee, which provides advice to the Minister for Corrections on strategic directions and service requirements for women in the Victorian correctional services system. It comprises of key stakeholders with diverse backgrounds who have considerable working knowledge and experience of the complexities and challenges faced by women offenders.

I also co-chair the Gender Equality Advisory Committee, which will advise the Minister for Local Government and Minister for Women on how to deliver the Government’s target of 50 per cent female mayors and councillors by 2025.

And I am very proud to be the Number 1 ticket holder for the Ballarat NBL 1 Women’s Miners basketball team and play for the Panthers basketball club.
