Selkirk Stadium Opens Stage Two

Ballarat’s impressive Eureka Sports Precinct has been given a further boost with the opening of Stage Two of Selkirk Stadium.

Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison today formally opened Stage Two of the centre at Norman Street in Wendouree, made possible thanks to a $5.2 million commitment from the Victorian Government.

Stage Two includes three outdoor 3×3 basketball courts, one mobile 3×3 court that can transported on a trailer for events across western Victoria, along with a learning centre, and a strength and conditioning centre for high performance basketball and netball teams.

The Victorian Government’s investment in this project is part of $38.5 million it has invested in the greater Eureka Sports Precinct since 2014.

The investment included $9 million for Stage 1 of Selkirk Stadium (formerly Ballarat Sports and Events Centre), which was completed in mid-2019 and included six new basketball courts and facility upgrades to attract more events to Ballarat.

The investment has also seen $22 million provided for Mars Stadium Stage One and $2.5 million for a new pavilion at CE Brown Reserve.

Ballarat now boasts one of the most impressive sporting precincts in regional Australia, able to host international and national events, and providing fantastic facilities for local sports teams.

And today’s opening couldn’t have been more timely. Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, social and economic outcomes for Victorian communities.

It’s part of the Victorian Government’s strong commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

Ms Addison acknowledged the City of Ballarat for its significant contribution to project delivery, and Basketball Ballarat for its advocacy and support.
