Community Pharmacy Program Locked In For Good
The Allan Labor Government is continuing to support accessible, affordable healthcare in local communities by making the successful Community Pharmacist Pilot a permanent Program from 1 July 2025.
The Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison today visited UFS Pharmacy to hear firsthand how the program is helping locals as it becomes an ongoing, statewide service.
We’ve invested a further $18 million to enable pharmacists to treat more Victorians with more conditions – without a trip to the doctor for a prescription.
Previously trialed as the Community Pharmacy Pilot, this investment locks it in for good – and makes it even bigger.
The Community Pharmacist Pilot which has made it easier for Victorians to get treatment for common health conditions at their local pharmacy, will become an ongoing, statewide service.
That that means that progressively over the next two years pharmacies will be able to treat a range of simple conditions with medicines usually only available with a GP script – this will include allergies, type 2 diabetes, asthma, ear infections, smoking cessation support and minor wound care.
And we’re also covering the cost of the consult – ensuring Victorians can access care for free.
Under the expanded program, Pharmacists will continue offering services to treat UTIs, skin conditions, the resupply of oral contraceptives, and the range of vaccines treatments first introduced through the pilot.
Over the next two years, up to 22 health conditions and well-being services will be available through community pharmacies.
These changes are part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening primary care, reducing pressure on GPs, and improving health access across Victoria.

“As the daughter of a pharmacist, I know what an important role they play in providing frontline treatment and healthcare in our community. I welcome that pharmacists can provide more support and save people a trip to the GP .”
