A brand new modular building for Urquhart Park Primary School

Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison was today welcomed by Principal Janet Hillgrove and student leaders at Urquhart Primary School in Newington, to open the school’s new $1.503 million permanent modular building.

This project involved the replacement of an older building containing asbestos with a new architecturally designed permanent modular building for year 4 students. Also included in the scope of the project was the landscaping of a Japanese inspired garden which was heavily influenced by the school’s Japanese teacher.

The new building was constructed under the Government’s ‘permanent modular school buildings program’. By the end of 2020, this type of construction will have been used in over 100 Victorian schools.

The modular buildings are constructed offsite and arrive at schools ready for assembling. This method means less time for planning and construction, causes less disruption on site at schools and is exciting for students who can watch the buildings being winched in.

The Labor Government has invested $7.2 billion to deliver more than 1,460 school upgrades, supporting over 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.

A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government’s school building boom, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the Government having already appointed builders to start delivering 14 new schools that will open in 2021.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and a quality education.
